Rudraksha Care: Compare Bracelets and Mala Beads

Rudraksha Bodhi Seed mala bracelet with Dzi bead and tassel

A rudraksha bead has raised ridges and narrow grooves where dust can settle. Rudraksha care begins with gentle dry cleaning, keeping the beads out of water, and avoiding heat. Rudraksha beads are dried seed stones from Elaeocarpus trees, commonly called seeds; they are traditionally strung into malas for counting prayers or repetitions and into bracelets. Their textured surface makes cleaning and storage worth considering before you choose a strand.

At Buddha Stones, our product specifications use the material term Bodhi Seed for the designs compared here. Read the material details alongside the rudraksha product name. For buying purposes, the useful differences are the form, bead dimensions, fit, string, and accompanying materials.

Bracelet or mala: compare the details before choosing

Start with how you intend to handle and store the beads. A bracelet and a longer mala can share materials while requiring different attention to fit and string condition. Use these checks to compare the forms without relying on a product name alone.

TraitWhat to check
Bracelet formLook for the wrist measurement attached to your selected option. A bead size is not a wrist size, and an inner circumference is not necessarily the recommended wrist measurement.
Mala or wrap formCheck the bead count and stated wrap guidance separately. A count of 108 does not establish how many times a strand will fit around your wrist.
Bead dimensionsCompare measurements directly. A size expressed with two dimensions describes something different from a single bead measurement; do not treat them as interchangeable.
String constructionDistinguish premium elastic string from premium string. Only the former explicitly identifies elastic; avoid assuming that a longer strand stretches.
Additional materialsRead the selected combination carefully. Materials named across an option range should not be assumed to appear together in one bracelet.
Tassel detailsConsider where a tassel will rest during wear and storage. Keep it clear of zippers, hooks, and other places where loose threads can catch.

Choose by dimensions before appearance. If two options appeal to you, compare their fit information first, then decide which bead scale and combination of materials you prefer.

Rudraksha care for textured seed beads

Treat these pieces as seed jewelry with additional components. A routine suitable for plain seed beads may be unsuitable for a painted bead, metal detail, or string on the same strand. We recommend a gentle approach that avoids soaking or adding substances to the surface.

  1. Remove loose dust dry. Use a clean, soft brush with light strokes along the grooves. Support the beads as you work, and avoid pulling on the string or pushing bristles into bead holes.
  2. Keep water exposure brief and accidental. Take seed jewelry off before bathing, swimming, or washing dishes. If it gets wet, blot it promptly with a soft cloth and allow it to dry fully in a shaded place at room temperature.
  3. Keep heat away. Do not use a hair dryer, radiator, or direct sunlight to hurry drying. Avoid leaving the strand in a hot car or beside a heater.
  4. Skip household cleaning mixtures. Do not scrub seed beads with detergent, alcohol, polish, or abrasive powders. Avoid oils unless you have care instructions specifically approving them for the complete piece.
  5. Check before putting it away. Look for fraying, stretched elastic, or a loose connection. Place the dry strand in a clean pouch or lined compartment without tight bends or pressure on its tassel.

For an elastic design, ease it over your hand without tugging individual beads. Take jewelry off before applying lotion or perfume, and let those products dry before putting it back on. These are general precautions for wood and seed jewelry, rather than a specialized treatment for any particular seed variety.

Four Buddha Stones designs to compare

The following options offer different combinations of dimensions, string, and accents. Words such as Luck, Wealth, and Auspiciousness in their full names express traditional wishes. They do not guarantee results.

108-bead tassel bracelet and mala. Our 108 Mala Rudraksha Beads Tassel Bracelet combines Bodhi Seed, a hand painted Dzi Bead, Agate, and Copper. Its specifications give 108 beads, premium elastic string, and bead sizes of Bodhi Seed 8mm and Dzi Bead 28mm. Its item types are Bracelet and Mala.

Inner circumference options are 15cm, 16cm, 17cm, and 18cm. The fit chart pairs those sizes with wrists measuring 14-14.5cm, 15-15.5cm, 16-16.5cm, and 17-17.5cm, respectively. This is a useful comparison if you want to select an inner circumference using a corresponding wrist measurement.

Bracelet with material choices. The Tibet Rudraksha Bodhi Seed Bracelet has premium elastic string and bead sizes of Approx. 9mm, 10mm, 11mm. Its wrist measurements are 5.91-6.30 in (15-16 cm), 6.30-6.69 in (16-17 cm), and 6.69-7.09 in (17-18 cm).

Some options pair Rudraksha Bodhi Seed with Amber, Cinnabar, Dzi Bead, Red Agate, Tiger Eye, or Turquoise. Compare the named selection rather than reading the full material range as the contents of one bracelet. This design gives you material combinations to consider alongside bead size.

Tassel mala with two bead dimensions. Our 108 Beads Rudraksha Bodhi Seed Tassel Mala contains Bodhi Seed, Crystal, Copper, and Rope, with premium elastic string. Its count is About 108, and its bead size is About 0.39*0.26 in (10*6.5mm).

The wrist specification is 5.51-6.29 in (14-16 cm)(About 3 Wrap). Keep the word “About” in mind when comparing this mala with an exact count or a single bead dimension. Its two bead measurements deserve attention if bead proportions are part of your preference.

Mala bracelet with two bead-size options. The 108 Mala Beads Rudraksha Bodhi Seed Dzi Bracelet combines Bodhi Seed, Dzi Bead, Copper, and Coconut Shell. It has 108 beads and options of 6-7mm*108 Bodhi Seed or 8mm*108 Bodhi Seed.

The wrist specification is 14-16cm(About 3 Wrap), and the band specification says premium string. Do not assume elasticity from the wrap description. Compare this construction with the explicitly elastic designs above before deciding how you will handle the strand.

Questions before choosing and cleaning

Can I soak rudraksha beads to clean the grooves?

We recommend dry brushing instead. Soaking exposes the seed beads, string, and accompanying materials to water together. If dust remains after gentle brushing, avoid scraping the grooves with a pin or another sharp tool. A stubborn mark does not justify damaging the surface.

Does a 108-bead mala always fit as a bracelet?

No. Bead dimensions, construction, and your wrist measurement all matter. Use the wrap and wrist information attached to the specific design. A bead count alone cannot tell you the fit, and a strand described as premium string should not be treated as elastic.

Should I oil the beads before storing them?

For general seed jewelry care, skip oil unless instructions for the complete piece explicitly recommend it. Added oil can leave residue in grooves and reach painted details or string. Put the strand away only when dry, with the beads supported and the tassel free from pressure.
